Security Roles
Let’s talk about security roles. We started to think about how these can be used in our recent blog about Field Level Security. They are certainly an essential part of any business and can be a big help when it comes to maintaining GDPR compliance. But it is also worth considering how you use security roles and whether your approach makes sense for your organisation.
Have you stuck with the default Dynamics offering or have you developed your own bespoke roles?
We like to work with our customers to identify people’s job functions, and then based on that we build them a system and a set of security roles to match.
This means that when a new person joins, instead of trying to shoehorn them in to a default role that could work or copying a profile from another person, you simply need to know what job they do and then give them the role(s) associated with it.
We also recommend that you remove the ability to delete from all security roles. Instead, it is better to set up status reasons so they have the ability to deactivate. This avoids the risk of an accidental delete as once something has gone, its gone!
If you would like us to help you with this, it would be covered under our Time Bundles.
