Micro Office Huddle – 01.03.22
Micro Office Huddle is a completely free networking group with a difference. Instead of just connecting professionals to one another, we connect our members to information by focusing on technology. Sessions run on a monthly basis, and each Huddle has a Technology Spotlight. This is where any member can volunteer to lead a talk on an area of tech that excites them. This is an excellent way to simultaneously showcase the incredible knowledge base which we have in attendance whilst allowing other members to continue their learning. This Technology Spotlight was run by Cameo-Rose Neal and was all about the different features included in Windows 11 which can aid accessibility and Hands Free Typing.
This month’s Technology Spotlight was all about how you can use the updated accessibility features such as voice typing in Windows 11 to work whilst on the go. Cameo showed how you can access the voice typing features from anywhere there is an open text box. To access the voice typing features on your computer, simply press the Windows button + ‘H’. This feature has been upgraded since earlier forms of voice features such as ‘Dictate’ and you can now alter the settings so that your dictated speech is pulled through with automatic punctuation. This makes it far easier when it comes to reviewing what you have written as you have the punctuation breaking up your speech patterns wherever you have paused.
In addition to the Voice Typing features, Windows 11 also brings about other features for accessibility which can be beneficial for many. Narrator is a tool which allows you to listen to whatever is on your screen whilst on the move. All you need to do to activate the Narrator tool, is click the Windows button + Control + Enter. This will start the application. To navigate around the screen from here, you can continue to use the tab buttons, enter key, and arrow keys.
The 404 Roundup is the time where anyone in the Huddle can ask a question about an area of technology they’ve been struggling with. From there, the group will try and help with any tips we collectively have. Members can also share exciting new features they’ve recently discovered with the group. This Huddle, no one had any problems!
Coming Up / More Information
We’ve decided to run sessions on a monthly basis from now on and the next Huddle is scheduled to run on Tuesday the 5th of April 2022. Richard Wishart will be leading the next Technology Spotlight. Make sure to book your place for next week’s Huddle and join our Facebook group to stay up to date! We hope to see you there!
In the announcements on our Facebook group, we’ve set up a poll full of Technology Spotlight ideas! So, please feel free to add in anything else that you would like to learn some more about (or volunteer to run yourself!) and make sure to vote! We are prioritising topics based on what people would most like to see.
