Dialogs!

Firstly apologies if you are now humming the song “Time to say goodbye” and if you wasn’t here’s a link to it so you can 😉 https://youtu.be/ohXI3po8hK0

Anyway, people who have had the ‘pleasure’ of working with me in person will know that when in the summer of 2017 they announced that Dialogs were going it hit me hard! I LOVE dialogs!

Whilst I was looking through the wave 2 release note there are now dates to some of the items and Dialogs is one of them.

So there it is. They are being removed by 1st October 2020. There are many things that can replace them, Business Process Flows being one of the items and Canvas Apps being a second. Microsoft have kindly produced a link to a great comparison for both and like everything there will be pros and cons (and potentially license implications) depending on what you choose

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/flow/replace-dialogs

Here is a snip from the link above

Ultimately whatever you choose as a way forward will involve time and effort from someone to make the change.

Are you effected?

If you are using dialogs you need to start planning now.

  1. How many dialogs do you have?
  2. What do they do?
  3. Why have you used them?
  4. Do you still need them?

People use dialogs for may reasons, some for ease of use as you can ask questions on one screen and update multiple records / entities based on the response (without code) or for may other reasons.

However, if you use them you need to replace them. If you are a consultant like myself you probably already have a plan in place. If however, you are using a system that someone else built you may need some help.

If that’s the case feel free to reach out to myself and we can look to work together to put a plan in place.

Don’t leave it till next year to start thinking about this otherwise it may be too late.
