The sun is out, the sky is blue I may be stuck inside for a while but not everything is doom and gloom in the D365 Life Without code world and I have a smile on my face 🙂 With the corona virus and government legislation in the UK and world wide change if / when and how people work it is very easy to look at the negative as there are some terrible things happening both health wise and financially.

Today 23rd March started with very mixed emotions. I am in the 12 week shielding group so for me my home is the only thing I will see for a while. Although I work remotely for development anyway and we have a mixture of Remote and Face to Face for training. As an organisation D365 Life Without Code can continue to work all be it with a few tweaks.

Sadly I had to cancel my adults D365 technical train the trainer course but on the flip side today I ran a remote ‘kids that configure’ course.

Kids that configure

I had a group of children on teams learning about D365. We had 3 team, the Crazy Carvers, The lost socks and Team Ice Cream! We are over a couple of weeks going to build a small database (and phone app) for all of their books, games, toys, music and films.

Day 1 was all about the fields! Single line of text / multiple lines of text / option sets and date fields. Then putting all of that onto a form. My little bunch of kids (and their helpful grownups) were on the case.

A little homework set to finish it off and then I am looking forward to seeing all of their efforts on Friday 🙂

An interesting press release

The other thing that made me smile today was a press release – the Government are giving funding to organisations who can help support people in isolation.

New technology challenge to support people who are isolating

£500,000 of funding is available for technology companies who come up with digital support solutions for people who need to stay at home because of coronavirus.

New technology challenge to support people who are isolating

Now, not everybody is going to agree with this but, not everybody is facing a minimum of 3 months without being allowed to leave their homes. As a technology organisation reading this totally put a smile on my face. What an amazing way to to help people like myself who are facing a future indoors and also what an amazing what to fund some of the fantastic technology companies and self employed.

The funding will be available to innovators who can find digital ways to support people who need help during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The ‘Techforce19’ challenge aims to support those who need to stay at home for several weeks and need help. This could include people who need mental health support or who have social care needs.

Funding of up to £25,000 per company is available.
